Walmart launched the Walmart+ Assist membership program to provide cost-saving membership packages to individuals on Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Members of the Walmart+ Assist program can shop for groceries and receive free shipping. They are also eligible for video streaming and gas discounts and receive a 50% monthly and annual discount.

What is the Walmart+ Program?

The Walmart+ Assist program was established to assist those who need it. Customers of the SNAP and government assistance programs can enjoy huge cost-saving benefits due to the program.

How to Qualify for the Walmart+ Assist Program

The Walmart+ Assist program is available for new or existing Walmart members. All existing members qualify for the program and can sign up by visiting the Walmart website; however, they must verify their membership through SheerID. SheerID is a third-party service that helps Walmart verify the affiliations of all existing members on their behalf.

If any individual fails to prove their eligibility, Walmart will not approve their enrollment to the Walmart+ Assist program. Once verified, the verification status is eligible for a year and begins right from when an individual pays for the Walmart+ Assist program.

All Walmart+ Assist program members need to undergo verification annually. The entire process is conducted offline and without any input from the customer in most scenarios. If the annual verification fails, your eligibility for the Walmart+ Assist program will pause, which means you will not continue enjoying the benefits of the Walmart+ Assist plan.

Your existing plan will auto-renew for $12.95 per month or at an annual price of $98 until you cancel your membership. Any changes to the membership plan will be communicated to you via email.

Once approved, you can sign up for the Walmart+ Assist program to enjoy the new prices provided by the membership ($6.47 per month and $49 per year) and the cost-saving benefits.

Once approved for the Walmart+ Assist program, you can enjoy a discounted price. The old plan is canceled, and if any portion is left unused, Walmart will provide you with a complete refund. The new plan with the discounted price will begin as soon as the previous plan is canceled. If Walmart is unable to refund you, they will provide you with a gift card based on the amount that was to be refunded.

Walmart Support for SNAP Members

Walmart previously provided its government assistance clients with additional support programs, and in 2019, the company was among the first retailers to embrace the USDA SNAP Online Purchase program. The program allows clients to pay for their purchases using the SNAP program, which provides better access to delivery and pickup services.

By shopping in Walmart, SNAP members can select healthier choices. This allows them to make informed decisions when shopping for groceries and other household essentials. With access to a wide range of products, subscribers can easily find items that align with their dietary preferences and requirements.

Whether it's organic produce, gluten-free snacks, or sugar-free beverages, Walmart+ offers a convenient and affordable way to prioritize health and wellness. Furthermore, Walmart is one of the few retailers that allows the SNAP program's benefits in all fifty U.S. states. According to May data, Walmart accounts for approximately 25.5% of SNAP shoppers.

Companies That Offer Programs for SNAP Recipients

Some popular retailers that provide programs to SNAP recipients include Target, FarmboxRx, Walmart, and Amazon. These major retailers allow online EBT payments, which means that individuals on the SNAP program will have to cover the additional fees that come with grocery pickups and delivery.

Amazon accepts SNAP EBT cards for all U.S. states except Montana, Hawaii, Alaska, and Louisiana. FarmboxRx also accepts SNAP EBT cards for grocery pickups and delivery. Target allows online SNAP payments for all grocery items eligible for the SNAP program, and clients can take advantage of the program while using Shipt, Target’s delivery service.
